President Obama wants a peaceful restructuring of Nigeria and have been working round the clock to make some headway before he leaves office. He has tasked Secretary of State John Kerry with this diplomatic shuttle.
Two months ago, John Kerry paid a visit to Nigeria. His first port of call; Sokoto. Remember the British has an Agreement with Sokoto Caliphate, NOT WITH NIGERIA. So, Kerry had to respect that agreement.
After the meeting with the Sultan, Kerry met with the governors from the 19 Northern States. He finally met with President Buhari. The message was simple; prepare for the restructuring of Nigeria.
Last week, twelve Governors of the Northern States were in Washington D.C. The message was still the same; prepare for restructuring.
The US promised to help them face economic obstacles that would be inevitable, but made it clear that neither the US nor Britain will grant military assistance to hold Nigeria together.
Now Britain, determined to still be in the good books of the North, has allowed the European Union Parliament to discuss Nnamdi Kanu’s illegal detention and the right of Biafrans to self-determination. This is the Pontious Pilate option. Remember that Nnamdi Kanu is a British citizen and it is totally wrong for Britain to uphold a 200-years old agremment against their own citizen.
President Obama wants to at least kickstart the proccess before he leaves office. But you know what we have in Aso Rock and his fascination with oil. He would want to keep Niger Delta. He believes Niger Delta is not part of Biafra. So expect some moves to pacify Niger Delta.
No one ever believed Ghadaffi could be thrown out. He was. Are the Igbos ready? Are Biafrans ready? Is Southern Nigeria ready?
