Army begins road construction inside Sambisa to ease operations

The Nigeria Army on Wednesday said it had commenced construction  of road network from Alagarno to Sambisa to ease troops operations in mopping up Boko Haram insurgents in the forest.

FG declares December 26th & 27th 2016, Jan 2nd 2017 public holidays

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday December 26th, Tuesday December 27th, and Monday  January 2nd 2017 as Public Holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year Celebrations respectively. 

The announcement is contained in a statement released by the Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Dambazau, today.

Ten man Leicester came from behind to earn a hard fought two all draw at Stoke while Manchester United made it three wins in a row with a two nil win at West brom.

 Arsenal suffered a second defeat within a week at the Etihad stadium With Leroy Sane cancelling out Theo Walcott's early opener before Raheem Sterling scored the winning goal to move into second position with Liverpool not playing until Monday.

In Spain, Barcelona put Espanyol to the sword in the Catalan derby to close the gap on Madrid who have a game in hand to within 3 points.



Atletico Madrid won their first game in three matches with a lone goal. Sevilla, Villareal and Real Sociedad continued their fine forms and maintained their positions on the table with wins.


Juventus defeated AS ROMA by a lone goal in a top of the table clash to move four points clear in the Italian Serie A.



Bayern moved to the top of the table on goal difference with the league's surprise package RB leipzig. 



While in France, Nice moved four and seven points clear of Monaco and PSG respectively who both dropped points.

2018 election: Zimbabwe’s ruling party endorses 92-year-old Mugabe

Zimbabwe’s ruling ZANU-PF party’s congress endorsed on Saturday President Robert Mugabe as its candidate for the 2018 election, which could extend his 36 years in office.

The leader was endorsed by all party structures at the meeting held in Masvingo, 300 kilometres (186 miles) southeast of the capital Harare.

The congress voiced “its support to the president and first secretary comrade Robert Mugabe as the sole candidate for the forthcoming 2018 elections,” said deputy secretary Eunice Sandi Moyo.

The endorsement was met with resounding applause from thousands of supporters attending the
annual conference, chanting in Shona language “tongai, tongai baba” meaning “rule, rule father”.

Mugabe, 92, has been in power since independence from British colonial rule in 1980 has avoided naming a successor or laying out plans to retire.

He once joked that he would rule until he turned 100.

The absence of a clear successor has sparked infighting including verbal exchanges on social media in recent weeks between factions.
